The waste was piling up and filling its streets and surround the residents (host community and IDPs), and because of the people's inability to transporting waste to distant places, as well as complete ignorance of its extent danger and the waste causing in spread mosquitoes that transmit many diseases and epidemics such as celery, malaria, cholera and dengue fever.. These wastes have become a nightmare for the people and foretell a health and environmental disaster among the people.
The project (Provision Of Emergency WaSH Services For Hard Reach Locations And IDPs Sites in Al-Durayhimi District) funded by YHF and implemented by UN-Habitat in partnership with the Taybah Foundation for Development, and implements a comprehensive hygiene campaign, by transporting the accumulated waste in many places by collecting and transporting it to special waste places Completely far from populated areas and then dispose them in safe methods.
In order to contribute to limiting the spread of epidemics and diseases, and to ensure the continuity of environmental sanitation, the project implements accompanying household awareness campaigns, explaining the dangers of waste accumulation and the correct methods of washing hands, in addition to informing the beneficiaries of the symptoms and methods of preventing diseases and epidemics.
The efforts made by the project team were reflected in a positive and tangible way on the lives of the people (host community and IDPs) through the application of environmental sanitation principles that they learned about through the awareness campaign and this was confirmed by one of the community leaders, saying: "People now understand and care more about their hygiene and the cleanliness of their living areas than before."
