Lahj – Tuban District Within WASH Response Project (21st of MAY 2019)
Many IDPs participated in an environmental clean-up campaign organized
by the Taybah Foundation for Development and UNICEF in coordination with
the Lahj Local Council and Camp Management Team in Rabat Camp, For water
and environmental sanitation Response project activities.
The clean-up campaign included large parts of the camp's squares and
surrounding areas, as well as the places of accumulation of waste
outside the camp and the roads near the camp. The garbage was collected
and removed from the camp by trucks and unloaded in dedicated dumps away
from the camps in order to improve hygiene in the communities of
displacement, to live in Cleaner environment and more conducive to the
prevention of vector diseases and epidemics where children can thrive
and be healthy, even in the midst of adversity and poverty.
"Hygiene campaigns lead to positive change in behavior among displaced
people. If people in these camps want to return to their original
governorates, they will take the necessary capacity and knowledge to
maintain their resources and improve their communities," said Eng. Riad
El Brahimi, Manager of WASH Emergency Response Project.
"Garbage usually accumulates during Ramadan, and the presence of people
from the local community and UNICEF to help us is a joy and makes us
feel that we are not alone," said Yahya Joman, a Rabat Camp IDP.
The campaign was attended by WASH Emergency Response Program staffs and
a large number of IDPs in the camp in the presence of Deputy Governor of
Lahj, Mr. Ahmed Salam, Omar Mokbel Al-Samiti, Director of the Executive
Unit of IDPs and the Advisor to the Governor for Organizational Affairs
and Professor Ibtisam Ahmed Al-Misli, Manager of education and media
department at health office.
Mentioning that UNICEF, in partnership with Taybah Foundation for
Development, implements WASH Emergency Response Project which supports
IDPs and the host community in Hodeidah, Aden, and Lahj governorates.
